Well, well, well, let me tell ya somethin’ about that Texas State football championship this year. It was a mighty big deal, I tell ya that. Them boys down there in Texas sure know how to put on a show when it comes to football. In 2023, it was a real treat for folks who like to see some hard-hittin’, fast-playin’ football. You ain’t seen nothin’ like it if you ain’t been to one of them big games. But let’s get to the point here, I ain’t got all day to chat.
First off, let me tell ya ’bout the Duncanville Panthers. Them boys from Duncanville, they did somethin’ no one thought they’d ever do. They went and won two state championships in a row, somethin’ that ain’t never happened before in their school’s history. I reckon that’s a big deal, ain’t it? They took down North Shore in a high-stakes Class 6A Division I state championship game with a final score of 49-33. I know some folks were a little nervous, but those Panthers just kept goin’, like a freight train, till the very end.
And let me tell ya, that game was somethin’ else. They played that big game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Now, for folks like me, I don’t know much about fancy stadiums, but I heard that place is as big as a whole field. All them folks watchin’ from the stands, and them boys just runnin’ like a herd of cattle. You could feel the excitement in the air! Everyone was hollerin’ and cheerin’, real loud too! It was like nothin’ else, I tell ya.
Now, this year, the Texas high school football championships weren’t just about Duncanville. Oh no, there were plenty of other teams out there tryin’ their best too. Lots of ’em fought hard to get to that championship stage. And let me tell ya, the teams weren’t just sittin’ around waitin’ for a handout. They were runnin’, kickin’, and passin’ like their lives depended on it. It wasn’t just about the winners, but about the spirit of the game, too.
Another big thing folks were talkin’ about was the Malakoff Tigers. They was up against the Franklin Lions in the 2023 3A Division I UIL Football State Championship. That was another game folks were talkin’ about all over the place. Folks from Malakoff, Franklin, and everywhere in between was gatherin’ ’round to see them boys give it their all. It wasn’t just the folks from them towns neither, it was the whole state watchin’. Football is serious business down there in Texas!
And ya gotta mention the Texas State Bobcats. They played their season real good, with a record of 8-5. Now, that might not sound like much, but for them boys over at Texas State University, it’s something to be proud of. They were part of the Sun Belt Conference, which is a big deal in college football. Their coach, G.J. Kinne, did a mighty fine job keepin’ them boys in line and playin’ some good football. I ain’t gonna pretend to know all the details ’bout every game, but I know enough to say they worked hard and made a name for themselves.
But, let’s not forget about the heart and soul of this whole thing – the love of the game. Football down in Texas ain’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. Folks get together, cheer for their team, and that’s the kinda thing that brings people together. It don’t matter if you’re from a big city like Dallas or a little town like mine, football’s somethin’ everyone can enjoy. It don’t matter if the team wins or loses, it’s all about the community and the good times people have watchin’ them games.
And, if you’re still wonderin’, the next year’s gonna be just as exciting. Folks are already talkin’ about who’s gonna take the crown next year, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they’re gonna give it their all. Ain’t no takin’ it easy when it comes to Texas football.
So, all in all, 2023 was a year full of thrills, spills, and plenty of cheers. The boys from Duncanville got their second state championship in a row, and I reckon that’ll go down in history. But there were plenty of other teams out there who gave it their best too. Ain’t no better way to spend a day than watchin’ some good ol’ football. I’m lookin’ forward to seein’ how next year’s gonna turn out, and I bet it’s gonna be just as good if not better!
