Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here 2023 Texas football championship. You ain’t gonna believe the excitement that was goin’ on over at AT&T Stadium, down in Arlington. All them high school teams comin’ together from all corners of Texas to battle it out for the biggest prize in Texas football – that state championship! It sure was somethin’ to see, folks, lemme tell ya. Teams like Aledo, Anna, and Gilmer, they all played their hearts out and earned them titles, and it was a real show to watch, even if you ain’t much into football.
Now, if you ain’t familiar with how this works, well, it’s pretty simple. All them teams play all season long, and the best of ’em get to go to this big ol’ championship event. They got 12 different state championships, and this year, it was from Dec. 13 to Dec. 16, held right at the AT&T Stadium. That’s the same place where them big NFL teams play, so ya know it’s a big deal. Each team plays in different divisions, like Class 1A, 3A, and so on, and each of them fights for that shiny gold trophy.
The first team I wanna tell ya about is the Aledo Bearcats. They been a strong team for a long time, and this year they didn’t disappoint. They took home the trophy in their division after a mighty fine game. They played tough, and them boys were workin’ like a well-oiled machine out there. Folks from all around were cheerin’ ‘em on, and they sure earned it. Ain’t nobody can say they didn’t deserve that win.
Then you got the Anna Coyotes, now they surprised a lotta people! They was underdogs, but they came out and gave it their all. When them Coyotes took to the field, they weren’t lookin’ to just play, they was out there to win, and win they did. It was a real heart-thumpin’ game, and you could feel the excitement in the air. Those boys didn’t back down, not for a second, and that’s what made their victory so sweet.
And who could forget them Gilmer Buckeyes? Now, they’ve been makin’ a name for themselves over the years, and they kept that streak goin’. Them Buckeyes got themselves another championship, and you could tell they were determined. They wasn’t gonna let anybody take that title away from ’em, no sir. From the first whistle to the last, they played like it was their last game ever, and it paid off in the end. Mighty proud moment for their community.
All of this took place at that big fancy AT&T Stadium, which is just a sight to see, let me tell ya. I don’t know if y’all have ever been there, but it’s one of them places where you can’t help but look around and say, “Wow, this here’s the big time.” It’s where the Cowboys play, after all. But this year, it wasn’t just the NFL folks who were struttin’ around. It was all them high school players, gettin’ a chance to shine on that big ol’ stage. And they did! They sure did.
Now, it don’t matter whether you’re a fan of football or not, you can’t help but get caught up in the spirit when you see all them teams comin’ together like that. From the cheerleaders to the band, to all the folks in the stands, it was like one big ol’ family reunion. Everybody had a good time, and that’s what makes this event so special. It ain’t just about football, it’s about community, pride, and showin’ what these young folks can do when they put their hearts into somethin’.
And I gotta tell ya, the way them teams played, it really makes you think. They’re out there puttin’ in the work, stayin’ disciplined, and fightin’ through every challenge that comes their way. Kinda reminds ya of life, don’t it? Sometimes, you gotta fight, you gotta work hard, and you gotta keep pushin’, even when it seems like the odds are stacked against you. That’s the spirit of Texas football, and that’s what makes these championship games so meaningful.
If you missed the championship this year, well, you sure missed a lot. But don’t worry, it’s comin’ again next year, and I reckon them teams are gonna be just as hungry for that win. So, keep an eye out, ‘cause Texas football’s somethin’ you don’t wanna miss. There ain’t nothin’ quite like it, I can tell ya that much.
And so, as the 2023 UIL Texas Football State Championships wrapped up, you could hear the cheers and see the pride in the eyes of all them players and fans. Aledo, Anna, Gilmer, and all the other teams that played their hearts out this year, they all deserve a round of applause. They showed what Texas high school football is all about – heart, grit, and a whole lotta passion.
