I wasn't looking to become an expert or anything, just trying to see if I could find some consistent threads. I looked for reports that seemed a bit more grounded, less about wild speculation.
It wasn’t easy, I’ll tell you that. So much of what’s out there is just echo chamber stuff. People repeating other people. One thing I tried to do was to check when things were published. You’d be surprised how often old news gets recycled and presented as if it just happened. I also tried to see if different, more, let's say, sober-sounding sources were reporting similar basic facts, not the sensational bits.
What I Took Away From This "Practice"
In the end, my little 'investigation' wasn't about uncovering some hidden truth. That was never the goal. For me, it was more about understanding how hard it can be to get straight information, especially when it’s a really sensitive topic. And it’s always a tragedy when it involves someone’s child, that’s the main thing that hits you.
The biggest thing I learned, or I guess, had reinforced, was the importance of being super careful with information. It’s so easy for stories to get twisted, or for unconfirmed things to spread like wildfire. And behind every one of these headlines, there are real people, real families, going through something awful. That’s easy to forget when you’re just scrolling.
It also made me think a lot about privacy. Some details, well, maybe they’re just not for public consumption, and there are good reasons for that. Respecting that seems pretty important.
So yeah, that was my process. Nothing very scientific, just a person trying to make sense of the information flow. It definitely made me more cautious about how I consume news about these kinds of events. I try to take a step back, remember the human element, and be a bit more critical of what I read. It’s a sobering kind of practice, for sure, but I think it was valuable for me personally.
