Well now, you won’t believe what happened last week. There was this awful, awful crash on the highway. It was one of them head-on collisions, y’know, where two cars go smackin’ right into each other, like they didn’t even see the other one comin’. And it’s a real sad story, too. This poor woman, her name was Lynch, 65 years old. She didn’t make it. They said she died right there on the spot. Just like that. The car that hit her, well, it was tryin’ to pass another car on a highway that ain’t even divided. Ain’t safe, is it? I don’t know how people think they can pass cars on such a road. The police, they said she was dead before they could even get to her. Ain’t that somethin’?
Now, it don’t stop there. Another tragic thing happened, over by El Paso. A whole family, gone. Four people, just like that. A man, a woman, and two little girls—both of ‘em just 9 years old. They were in a crash on Sunday afternoon. Imagine that. A mother and father lost their babies in one blink of an eye. Just broke my heart when I heard about it.
But there’s more. Over in Texas, on U.S. Highway 67, there was another deadly wreck, this time Tuesday. Six people, just gone. And another three got hurt. It don’t seem to end. Makes you wonder, don’t it? How much more folks gotta suffer from these kinds of accidents?
So, let me tell you about one more story. It’s real hard to hear, but I reckon you need to know. This lady, Cynthia Jensen, 74 years old, she was in a crash, too. Same thing, head-on collision. And it was late in the afternoon, just before 5 o’clock, on a Monday. Poor thing, she didn’t make it neither. They said she died at the scene. I can’t imagine what her family’s goin’ through.
I’ll tell ya, these head-on crashes, they’re real bad. You ever been in one of them? The way them cars smash together, it’s a wonder anybody survives. But even if they do, they ain’t always the same. Folks get broken bones, some get whiplash, and others, well, they might have concussions or even brain injuries. It’s terrible, just terrible. And don’t even get me started on how bad it is when people get their faces all cut up or their teeth knocked out. Ain’t no easy way to recover from that.
Now, I know we all see these accidents on the news or hear about ‘em around town, but I reckon a lot of folks don’t stop to think about it. But maybe we should. Maybe we should think a bit more ‘fore we go and do something risky, like try to pass on a road that ain’t safe for passin’. Y’know, those kinds of things are what make the difference between life and death. So, let’s all slow down a little, be more careful on the road. For our own good and for the good of everyone else out there.
What I’m sayin’ is, you never know what might happen, so don’t take chances. Drive safe, take your time, and remember that it’s better to be late than to never get there at all.
